WHAT ARE CREDENTIALS?
Credentials is what gets you through the door so to speak. They’re your all access pass to FilmQuest’s events. All of them. If you are a journalist, vlogger, blogger, videographer, or just a fan who wants to attend all the screenings, parties, and ceremonies, this is where you begin. At FilmQuest, there will be several different categories of credentials by which you can apply for.
HOW DO I GET MY CREDENTIALS?
Sign up and pay the fee where applicable. Please contact us through our contact form, inform us if you are press & media, or a patron, and we will reply to you shortly.
WHAT DO MY CREDENTIALS GET ME?
There are three forms of credentials for FilmQuest, all with similar benefits:
Media & Press: If you are a member of the media or press, your credentials will give you full access to FilmQuest and FantasyCon. You will be able to film, photograph, interview and participate in all the screenings, panels, and events.
Film Lovers: If you are simply a lover of films, and would like to have an all-access pass to all of FilmQuest’s screenings, panels, and events, this is the pass for you. This particular pass does not give you access to FantasyCon and it’s events.
Film & Fantasy Lovers: If you love both films AND fantasy, and would like to have an all-access pass to all of the events associated with BOTH FilmQuest and FantasyCon, this is the pass for you.
More information, including rates for credentials, coming soon.

FANTASYCON: JOIN THE ADVENTURE
FantasyCon is a brand new convention with its emphasis in the world of Fantasy. While this may seem obvious, FantasyCon is actually the first convention of its kind. It is a place where the experience comes first and foremost, giving its attendees a chance to literally live in a fantasy world for three days in July.
FantasyCon takes place at the Salt Lake City convention center, the Salt Palace. It is a celebration of all things fantasy and fantastic. At the convention, artists stand side by side with movie stars, aerial performers display their talents to thousands of patrons, wizards literally wander the halls, and Larp’ers battle each other to the “death” in the epic battle stadium.
The Con is a full sensory experience, where attendees can live out their fantasies in ways they never imagined possible.
Until FantasyCon comes closer to launching, we cannot reveal too many of the major secrets that are planned for the event. FilmQuest is proud to be associated with FantasyCon, and looks forward to a long relationship to come with the convention.

WHERE TO STAY?
We recommend to the filmmakers who plan on attending the festival to book a hotel in downtown Salt Lake City near the Salt Palace convention center and the Gateway Mall. We are currently making arrangements with local hotels for discounted rates, so check back regularly for info regarding accommodations.
RENTAL CAR & TRANSPORTATION
The Salt Palace and hotels in downtown Salt Lake City are all in relative walking distance from each other. Utah also has a highly efficient TRAX car system, making foot and rail transport in the city a breeze. However, we do recommend looking into booking a rental car if you plan on exploring the sites that Utah has to offer outside of Salt Lake City.

A FESTIVAL OF OPPORTUNITY & EXPOSURE
At FilmQuest, we have several categories in which you may submit your film. There are several categories open to submission, including some that you may not find everywhere else. We even have unique competitions that we encourage you to explore. Discover which category fits best for your film below.
FEATURE FILMS
Got yourself a feature film? Is it a genre film? Then we want to see it! Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, whatever, we want you to send it our way! If it’s a cop drama, we probably don’t want it… unless it’s a cop drama involving time travel. You get the idea. (41 minutes and above)
SHORT FILMS
So you have a short film? Is it a genre film? Is it 40 minutes or less? Then we want to see it! Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, whatever, we want you to send it our way! If it’s a coming of age story in a high school, we probably don’t want to see it… unless it’s a coming of age story involving zombies. You got this. (40 minutes and below)
ANIMATED FILMS
Have you animated a film? Is it genre based? Then let’s rock this, and send it our way! As long as it’s based in horror, sci-fi, or fantasy, then it’s all good. Of course, we don’t want to see anything with penguins in it… unless those penguins happen to be post-apocalyptic killing machines! Everyone would love that! (If you have an animated film, this is where you’ll submit, regardless of whether or not its a feature, short, etc.)
STUDENT FILMS
Are you a student who has a film? Is it genre based? If so, ignore the other categories. This is where we want you to submit, no matter what it is your sending us; feature, short, music video, etc. Just remember, we’re looking for a fantasy, horror, or sci-fi type of film. None of that political thriller stuff here… unless it’s about the overthrow of an evil Martian government. We’d love to see that! (If you have a student film, this is where you’ll submit, regardless of whether or not it’s a feature, short, etc.)
FAN FILMS
Make a fan film? While most festivals would turn their noses up at you, we at FilmQuest celebrate what you’ve achieved. So if you’ve made a fan film for Star Trek, Gears of War, Game of Thrones, etc. we want to see it! We are going to assume that no one has made a feature length fan film yet, so we’re going to limit our submissions to shorts. (40 minutes and below)
MUSIC VIDEOS
Make a band a music video? Is it genre based? If so, let’s rock this bad boy and send it our way! Remember, it needs to be in fantasy, sic-fi, or horror. We don’t care how big or small the band is, if its been distributed, whatever. We’re down to get down. Just don’t send us a Taylor Swift video… unless she’s got a goat head. Then we want that! (10 minutes and below)
TV/WEB SERIES
Got yourself a TV show or Web Series? Maybe a YouTube channel? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! Upload an episode that is based in sic-fi, fantasy, or horror and you’ll be good to go. Just don’t send us something about 1950’s diners… unless those diners have werewolves! All about that, we are. (30 minutes and below)
COMMERCIALS/ADVERTISEMENTS
Let’s do something unusual. We want to see your best commercials and advertisements that are genre based. Send them our way, because at FilmQuest, this is one of the few film festival that embrace ads. Just make sure they’re based in horror, sci-fi, or fantasy, and we’re solid. What we don’t want to see is an ad for chewing gum… unless that chewing gum explodes into bubbles made of millions of dancing unicorns. Then we’re so down for it. (5 minutes and below)
SCREENPLAY COMPETITION – FEATURES
Do you have an unproduced screenplay? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! We’re looking for FEATURE screenplays in this submission category, and those that are based in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. No time for romantic comedies here… unless they involve alien love. Savvy? (41 pages and above)
SCREENPLAY COMPETITION – SHORTS
Do you have an unproduced screenplay? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! We’re looking for SHORT screenplays in this submission category, and those that are based in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. No noir films here… unless they’re about robots who dream of electric sheep. Then we’re digging it. (40 pages and below)
FILMQUEST EXPRESS
A week long filmmaking extravaganza. Two weeks before the start of the festival, filmmakers will form teams by which they will have one week to complete a short film. Length, genre, and elements required for each film will be revealed the day the competition starts. All films will be screened at FilmQuest. A Grand Prize will be awarded at an awards ceremony, along with several other awards, exclusive to FilmQuestExpress. Check back regularly for details. Competition is open globally.
