A FESTIVAL OF OPPORTUNITY & EXPOSURE
At FilmQuest, we have several categories in which you may submit your film, including some that you may not find everywhere else. We even have unique competitions that we encourage you to explore. Discover which category fits best for your film below.
FEATURE FILMS
Got yourself a feature film? Is it a genre film? Then we want to see it! Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, whatever, we want you to send it our way! If it’s a cop drama, we probably don’t want it… unless it’s a cop drama involving time travel. You get the idea. (Runtime: 41 minutes or more)
SHORT FILMS
So you have a short film? Is it a genre film? Is it 40 minutes or less? Then we want to see it! Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, whatever, we want you to send it our way! If it’s a coming of age story in a high school, we probably don’t want to see it… unless it’s a coming of age story involving zombies. You got this. (Runtime: 40 minutes or less)
ANIMATED FILMS
Have you animated a film? Is it genre based? Then let’s rock this, and send it our way! As long as it’s based in horror, sci-fi, or fantasy, then it’s all good. Of course, we don’t want to see anything with penguins in it… unless those penguins happen to be post-apocalyptic killing machines! Everyone would love that! (If you have an animated film, this is where you’ll submit, regardless of whether or not its a feature, short, etc.)
STUDENT FILMS
Are you a student who has a film? Is it genre based? If so, ignore the other categories. This is where we want you to submit, no matter what it is you’re sending us; feature, short, music video, etc. Just remember, we’re looking for a fantasy, horror, or sci-fi type of film. None of that political thriller stuff here… unless it’s about the overthrow of an evil Martian government. We’d love to see that! (If you have a student film, this is where you’ll submit, regardless of whether or not it’s a feature, short, etc.)
FAN FILMS
Make a fan film? While most festivals would turn their noses up at you, we at FilmQuest celebrate what you’ve achieved. So if you’ve made a fan film for Star Trek, Gears of War, Game of Thrones, etc. we want to see it! We are going to assume that no one has made a feature length fan film yet, so we’re going to limit our submissions to shorts. (Runtime: 40 minutes or less)
MUSIC VIDEOS
Make a band a music video? Is it genre based? If so, let’s rock this bad boy and send it our way! Remember, it needs to be in fantasy, sci-fi, or horror. We don’t care how big or small the band is, or if its been distributed, whatever. We’re down to get down. Just don’t send us a Taylor Swift video… unless she’s got a goat head. Then we want that! (Runtime: 10 minutes or less)
TV/WEB SERIES
Got yourself a TV show or Web Series? Maybe a YouTube channel? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! Upload an episode that is based in sci-fi, fantasy, or horror and you’ll be good to go. Just don’t send us something about 1950’s diners… unless those diners have werewolves! All about that, we are. (Runtime: 30 minutes or less)
COMMERCIALS/ADVERTISEMENTS
Let’s do something unusual. We want to see your best commercials and advertisements that are genre based. Send them our way, because at FilmQuest, this is one of the few film festival that embrace ads. Just make sure they’re based in horror, sci-fi, or fantasy, and we’re solid. What we don’t want to see is an ad for chewing gum… unless that chewing gum explodes into bubbles made of millions of dancing unicorns. Then we’re so down for it. (Runtime: 5 minutes and below)
SCREENPLAY COMPETITION – FEATURES
Do you have an unproduced screenplay? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! We’re looking for FEATURE screenplays in this submission category, and those that are based in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. No time for romantic comedies here… unless they involve alien love. Savvy? (41 pages and above)
SCREENPLAY COMPETITION – SHORTS
Do you have an unproduced screenplay? Is it genre based? Then let’s have a look! We’re looking for SHORT screenplays in this submission category, and those that are based in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. No noir films here… unless they’re about robots who dream of electric sheep. Then we’re digging it. (40 pages and less)
FILMQUEST EXPRESS
A week long filmmaking extravaganza. Two weeks before the start of the festival, filmmakers will form teams by which they will have one week to complete a short film. Students can only participate on one team each, with no limit on how many teams each school can submit. Films will be screened at FilmQuest. Awards will be handed out, including a Grand Prize awarded to both the winning team and the school. (30 minutes maximum, 3 minutes minimum)
UTAH HIGH SCHOOL SHORTS COMPETITION

Please explore our schedules and events by clicking through the SCREENING SCHEDULE and EVENTS tabs. These pages will further elaborate upon the specifics of the events so you’ll never miss a film or that really cool panel with that really cool celebrity.
FILMQUEST SPONSORSHIP
Sponsorship with FilmQuest is an opportunity to raise the awareness of your company’s brand, services and mission. We are a festival that empowers filmmakers from the world over, and if your company is one that you feel would benefit from becoming a sponsor of FilmQuest, do not hesitate to contact us now.
WHAT DOES SPONSORSHIP GIVE US?
Exposure and Community. Your company’s name and/or logo will be put on banners, billboards, commercials, and step-and-repeats next to the FilmQuest name as an official sponsor of the event. Filmmakers from around the globe will become aware of your brand, and will become more inclined to use your company’s name, services and products in their own film ventures.
Sponsors also get the added benefit of becoming involved in a larger community of people that goes beyond the filmmakers. They also become involved with FantasyCon, and the added benefits it brings. Ultimately, those who choose to become a sponsor get to be seen as part of the team that worked together to bring great events, unforgettable experiences, and happiness to the people of Utah and to those who choose to come from outside our state and take part in the festivities.
Additionally, sponsors will not only get their company’s identity on the publicity of FilmQuest’s materials and programming, but they will also get discounted booth rates at FantasyCon, an event that promises tens of thousands of visitors and potential customers.
WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM OUR SPONSORS?
We at FilmQuest don’t expect too much from our sponsors. We are looking for Sponsors that are willing to give back to the filmmakers in whatever means possible. If you are a t-shirt company, then we’d like to give away a t-shirt in the “swag” bags to each filmmaker. If you are a restaurant, a free entry or discounted meal for each filmmaker would be great. If you’re a tech company, perhaps some software would be great.
If your company can provide more services or opportunity to our filmmakers and festival patrons, then we would love this as well. We are open to any form of dialogue and discussion in meeting your desires of sponsorship.
Ultimately, we aren’t asking for much, just for our sponsors to be willing to give a little back to the people who will ultimately make FilmQuest great: the filmmakers and lovers of great films.
In exchange, sponsors will be able to leave a favorable and positive mark on those they chose to help that could pay dividends for all parties for years to come.
SPONSOR PRIZES
Perhaps you would like to sponsor a prize or giveaway. For example, maybe you’d like to give a PS4 and/or XBOX One to the winner of the the Utah High School Competition. If this is something that is of interest to you and/or your company, please contact us.
BECOME A SPONSOR
To discuss sponsorship, and the options that come with it further, please fill out the form below and we will reply shortly. You can also email us via our contact form, and a reply will come shortly.
